We visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum during an Erasmus project entitled “Inclusion, diversity, tolerance”, so this museum was a very suitable choice as we got the chance to learn about the biggest discrimination in history, even if this former concentration camp is quite grim, even ghostly like.

Personally, I didn’t feel as distressed as others have reported after visiting these places, but maybe this was because I knew about the horrors that took place there long before actually visiting. But indeed, it’s a bitter truth that many people ignore nowadays, but this museum serves its purpose as nobody that visits it will ever see discrimination against other cultures or races with the same eyes.

On the academic side though, I learnt a lot of interesting details about the worst time in human history, such as how the Germans used to make Jews think they were being sent to a new country of their own or how they disguised Zyklon-B trucks as red cross ambulances.

All in all, I think this visit was quite fruitful, but for its eerie side, everything was great and we learnt a lot from the big mistakes of the past.
