The Inca city of Machu Picchu is suffering from a highly visiting phenomenon. The massive amount of visitors causes important nature changes, from melting glaciers to severe waste management issues. Moreover, Honduras Rio Plátano Biosphere, the largest remaining Central American rainforest, is confronting with drug trafficking, illegal logging, gold mining and illegal cattle ranching.
UNESCO officials are trying to save the monuments until it is too late. They haven’t missed the boat.
In my opinion, people have become too selfish, too arrogant to see that the nature’s resources aren’t unlimited. We should figure it out before the environment crosses the point of no return.
In Romania, these phenomena, like cattle trafficking and gold mining aren’t present, but deforestation is used in these areas, and the animals, for example, the bears, are suffering, as their home is destroyed and they search food in towns, such as Braşov, Sibiu or even highways,like Transalpina and Transfăgărășan. I consider that in those forests, which are deforested, we should plant new trees to purify the air.
