Oradea celebrated Earth Hour

Saturday evening, the military band of the Border Police School Oradea and forwards with torches roamed the town center to celebrate Earth Hour . For the seventh consecutive year , many of the city lights were extinguished to pull the alarm on climate changes.
The celebration began at 8 p.m in front of the Queen Mary Theatre . Several employees Double Tree by Hilton hotel lit torches and accompanied the military band in march in front of city hall , where they encountered dozens of people from town .
Traffic was restricted to police so the people from town could conduct freely. In the street they formed some boxes of papers having inside a candle , symbol of Earth Hour event , but even the logos of the organizers from Oradea namely Rotaract Club , Double Tree by Hilton and Scouts Romania.
Earth Hour event was created by the NGO World Wide Fund in 2007 as a way for individuals and businesses to demonstrate how a simple gesture can have a significant impact on climate change. In 2008 , the movement has become global, more than 50 million people switching off the light for the health of the earth.

In 2008 , Oradea and Bucharest were the first cities in Romania which joined the global event . Since then , every year on the last Saturday in March, people from town are urged not to use for one hour electricity.  (translated by Laura Belme)
