Agricultural activity has decreased greatly in Romania in recent years. It’s embarrassing to walk by the much land and see just grass on it, without anyone to care.
In the time of Ceausescu, the world was proud of the Romanians, the more land one was working worked, the prouder one was, so that they could consider them hardworking. To be honest, there were other times; a man from Romania could live decently from agriculture. Then you didn`t see land that is not working, but today thousands of pieces land are forgotten. Maybe because today all the tools you need are very expensive, fuel is very expensive, and a pensioner of the country can not afford to give millions from the little pension he has to work their land. Some people would like to work their land, but they do not have money and opportunities, others have money and opportunities, but will not do this.
Before 1989, students were taken from school to pick corn in practice, to cut wheat and more. There were very many vineyards, apple orchards, lands with vegetables. Today, people know nothing but the city. If you tell a student something about agriculture and how to work more for more, he will look to you in an ugly manner. This is the main reason why today no longer is the land worked.
We have many treasures in Romania and, most certainly, if we focus more on agriculture, we will have a richer country than in the present moment, but we don’t consider agriculture too much. (MĂDĂLINA MIHEŞ)
