We all aspire to enjoy vacations, time off, and jobs that offer abundant benefits- there are indeed commendable goals and essential needs however, not every nation shares this perspective. In Michael Moore’s documentary Where to Invade Next the lifestyle of people from various countries in comparison with America. Among these nations, Italy captured my attention the most.
Italy is one of the countries in which I would like to live for a period of time and this documentary reinforced my desire. Italy offers many benefits to its citizens, such as a 13th salary in December, 30 days of annual leave, and the ability to carry over unused vacation days to the next year. Lunch breaks can be taken at home and last around two hours. Additionally, parents are granted five months of paid leave for newborn care. In contrast, Romanians receive only 21 paid leave days and 20-minute lunch break, though, they do offer two years of paid maternity leave. Michael Moore points out that in America, there are no paid leave days or paid maternity leave. One aspect that I, particularly admired, is that the Italians receive 15 paid days off after marriage, a benefit that isn’t available in Romania or America.
Furthermore, Italians tend to be less stressed, which enhances their productivity and enjoyment of life. I wish this aspect were more prevalent in Romania, unfortunately, many Romanians have forgotten to appreciate life and find joy in it, having placed undue importance on material things.
In conclusion, while many countries may be more advanced in certain aspects, Romania holds a special place in my heart and also offers its own unique benefits in various areas.
