It takes dedicated parents

Firstly, homeschooling allows personalized learning tailored to fit any person’s needs. Not everyone learns the same because like how all people are different, all their minds work differently, they think differently so they learn and retain information differently. In a school, you can’t get this personalized treatment, which homeschool provides.

The film Captain Fantastic follows a family led by Ben Cash, who raises his six children in the forest of Pacific Northwest, away from society. Ben teaches his children survival skills, philosophy and critical thinking, challenging societal norms and instilling a sense of independence and self-reliance.

Moreover, homeschooling fosters strong family bonds and the parents are more implicated in their child’s life and education. Despite the unconventional setting, Ben ensures that his children receive a rigorous education covering a wide range of subjects, demonstrating the flexibility and adaptability of homeschooling. Although this wouldn’t be a viable idea for careless parents – successful homeschooling requires dedicated parental involvement and commitment to providing a well-rounded education.

Also one of the primary drawbacks of this method is the lack of social interactions and opportunities. While the family is brought closer together, they lack exposure to diverse perspectives and social situations, raising questions about their ability to navigate the complexities of the outside world.

The viability of this idea depends on various factors: parental involvement, resources, socialization, and regulatory environment.

The legal framework surrounding homeschooling varies by jurisdiction, with some regions imposing strict regulations while others offer more flexibility.

Overall, Captain Fantastic offers a thought-provoking exploration of homeschooling and its implications for individual freedom, education and societal norms.

On a personal note, I was never homeschooled, but I was in a situation close to it when I came to school for the first time in the city.
