LAURA BELME: The break-up

The commercial tells the brief story of keeping teeth clean and healthy with “Wrigley’s Extra sugar free gum” . They show Antonio Banderas eating his lunch in a restaurant. After he eats, suddenly the food comes to life in the form of the animated food gang, including a doughnut and a cute cupcake.
It’s very funny how Banderas tries to break-up with the characters, saying, “Look, lunch is over, so this is over!” The doughnut tries to save the relationship saying: “Is this a break-up?” After that Banderas takes out a packet of Extra gum and pops it into his mouth. The animated food characters are blown by the powerful cleaning force of the sugar free gum.
The person that brands the product is the famous actor Antonio Banderas which means that the ad uses celebrity endorsement. We are informed that while we all love to eat and drink, some foods leave a lingering effect for our teeth. The intention was to communicate the oral care benefits of chewing gum after eating or drinking.
Personally I find this commercial highly important for us and for our mouth care, even if it is a hilarious advert in which the gorgeous Hollywood actor breaks-up with junk food.
