Two wolves

There is a legend of the native American Indian which sounds like this: An old Cherokee Indian man was teaching his nephew about life: “There is a battle inside me, he told the boy. It’s a horrible fight between two wolves”. One is bad, full of anger, envy, sadness, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity and guilt, hard feeling, lies, pride, superiority. The other wolf is good. It is happiness, peace, love, hope, silence, shame, kindness, generosity, truth, sympathy and trust. In your inner self there is the same fight, just like in other peoples’ inner selves. The nephew thought for a minute, after which he asked grandfather: “Which wolf wins?” The old Cherokee answered: “The one that you feed”. (TEODORA SELEGEAN)
