Romania doesn’t have a nice image in Europe, in fact nowhere in the world. Most of the population from all over the world doesn’t know where is Romania on a map, and those who know have a very distorted impression about us.
The citizens of Europeans Union associate Romania`s name with Dracula, smuggling of cigarettes, dirty orphanages and terrible poverty. Many people consider that Romania is a state of gypsies because they are everywhere. Romanians who work in other countries make great efforts to be recognised as good Europeans.
Although we try to integrate, we are seen as delinquents or thieves. Salaries are low in comparison with the hard work you do for them. Only in Romania you can see unfinished roads with potholes and because of the lack of money, which was stolen by someone.
We were accepted in the European Union, but people from other countries are afraid of us because of the gypsies or because of those who are not well educated.
I`m sorry to say that, but I’m ashamed of the country in which I live. That’s why many Romanians go in other countries to make money or to survive. In my opinion, Romania is considered by all Europe a disaster, an endangered country. (ADELINA BOBU)
