Huge Garbage Island in the Pacific

Have you ever wondered what happens to waste that escapes the vigilance of the environmentalists, which is neither recycled nor reach the earth? Well, about 10% of it end up in oceans. In the northern Pacific Ocean, due to currents, different types of waste form islands. More than 50 years before the massive water pollution, the northern Pacific was like a paradise for fishermen. This area was rich, full of phytoplankton and also abundant in large fish or mammals. Now it is filled with a lot of stuff besides phytoplankton: tons of garbage, mostly plastic. This island has become two times bigger than the state of Texas and weighs 3.5 million tons. And that was several years ago. If this were not enough, it seems that every 10 years its surface increases ten times. It is the largest “landfill” in the world and is in the middle of the ocean.

Can you believe it? To avoid formation of new such islands, please be careful where you store garbage. Please consider at least 10 percent of it. (ANDREI BARBONŢA)
