Dear Sirs and Madams,
I am writing to express my discontent with the recent decision to ban the use of mobile phones during school hours. I believe that this measure not only fails to enhance the educational process but also has multiple negative effects on learning and student safety. Below, I present several arguments supporting this view.
Firstly, the use of technology for educational purposes is crucial. Mobile phones have become indispensable tools in education, with many applications and platforms available to help students better understand the concepts taught, organize their tasks, and improve their knowledge. Moreover, online learning and quick access to information are essential for developing digital competencies, which are necessary in contemporary society. To put it briefly, a complete ban on mobile phones in schools restricts students’ access to these resources and deprives them of valuable learning opportunities.
Secondly, regarding safety and communication, mobile phones represent an essential means of rapid communication between students and parents in emergency situations. A total ban on their use during school hours can generate anxiety among students and their families, especially considering that children’s safety is a constant concern. Please consider the fact that digital natives are accustomed to using technology as a primary mode of communication, and such a restriction could disrupt their sense of security.
All things considered, this prohibition addresses the issue in an authoritarian manner rather than an educational one. Instead of imposing a general ban, the focus should be on encouraging the responsible use of mobile phones. Students need to be taught how to manage their time and use technology in a balanced and constructive way. This approach would contribute to developing self-regulation skills and preparing them to face challenges in the digital environment, especially in a jobless future where digital literacy will be essential to move beyond menial jobs.
I would be very grateful if you could reconsider this decision and analyze its impact on the educational process and students’ well-being. I am confident that, through dialogue and collaboration, more balanced solutions can be found to integrate the responsible use of technology in schools, benefiting everyone involved.
Yours sincerely,
Salomeea Buda
