Dear Sirs and Madams,
The new regulations regarding the presence of phones in school seem overkill, the rules trying to prevent the inevitable, students cheating tests and exams, but human ingenuity never fails to impress, students always finding new ways to cheat.
But, on the other hand, limiting distractions would help children who don’t have the self control to stop themselves from using their phones in class. This way children who really want to learn and are intrinsically motivated will be the only ones paying attention in class, preparing them for university where these type of rules aren’t in effect, classes not even requiring to be present.
The “illegalization” of devices on school grounds makes the educational setting feel like a prison, with rules you live and die by. Countries like Finland try and make schools a warm, friendly place that don’t persecute the usage of phones, children being encouraged to use apps like ChatGpt for homework, and the results are nothing but positive.
In conclusion, these new limitations have more of a negative long term effect on the pupils.
Kind regards,
Bogdan Coita
