Smart phones as educational tools

Dear Sirs and Madams,

I am writing on behalf of many students from Romanian schools nationwide, regarding a recent decision to prohibit smartphones in school.

Firstly, I understand that this measure was introduced with good intentions to limit distractions and improve students’ focus, but please consider the fact that we are digital natives and in the future it it is not the menial jobs that will matter, because the world is progressing fastly toward a technological future.

Secondly, I would be grateful if you could look deeper into it, because this isn’t a good solution and I believe you might have overlooked some important points like how children will keep in touch with their parents.

Moreover, phones are educational tools, which have a wide range of educational apps and resources. Instead of banning them outright, schools should focus on educating students on how to use phones responsibly and productively, which could be an essential skill later in life.

To put it briefly, teaching balanced self-control when using technology is more beneficial than enforcing strict regulations.

All things considered, I respectfully request that you reconsider this decision and explore alternative solutions. A more nuanced approach would be greatly appreciated by students, parents, and teachers alike.

Respectfully yours,
Cătălina Mihelea
