Captain Fantastic is a comedy-drama movie written and directed by Matt Ross with Ben Cash as a protagonist, played by Viggo Hortensen. This movie shows another perspective on education.
Ben and his wife are homeschooling their children, wanting to develop their critical thinking and survival skills in nature.
In my opinion, homeschooling has both advantages and disadvantages: Firstly. you can personalize education based on your needs and skills. Also, you have more flexibility in your schedule so you have more free time to do things that you like and to develop skills in which you are interested. You can also form strong family bonds by spending more time together and learning things together.
But the disadvantages of homeschooling outways the advantages and also have a bigger impact on the child’s future. First, the children have fewer opportunities for social interaction with peers, which could impact their social skills. As well the parents may have limited resources and can be very stressful for them to educate the child.
Homeschooling could have a lack of accreditation and this could potentially limit future academic and career opportunities.
Returning to socialization and opportunities the child can have limited options in extracurricular activities.
In my case, the traditional school system is more convenient because teachers and grades push me to learn. Yet, studying at home wouldn’t motivate me to learn and develop.
