Apropiindu-ne de data de 8 decembrie, când a murit John Lennon, ne amintim și de Mike Oldifield, care a creat o melodie despre nefericita moarte a artistului. Domnul profesor Adrian Tencutiu afirmă că „una dintre importantele sale opere a fost Moonlight Shadow, cântată alături de cântăreaţa Maggie Reilly, care a fost compusă după moartea lui John Lennon, fiind dedicată acestuia.”
Mike Oldfield s-a născut în Anglia, în anul 1953, pe data de 13 mai. Este un compozitor şi muzician poli-instrumentist, lucrând în mai multe stiluri muzicale – rock progresiv, folk, muzică etnică, clasică, electronică si, mai recent, dance.
În anul 1973 apare albumul Tubular Bells, din pricina căruia Mike Olfield ajunge foarte cunoscut. A fost un prim album al casei de discuri Virgin Records. Albumul, la care Oldfield a cântat la mai mult de 20 de instrumente şi care cuprinde mai multe genuri, a avut un succes colosal, a intrat repede în Top 10 în Marea Britanie, unde a rămas 279 de săptămâni, o performanţă reuşită doar de zece albume în istoria topului.
