Damaged self-image

“I am a young person who is facing a problem that couldn’t solve – it is the fact that  I do not trust my own strength, I’ve got complexes, namely  I see myself as fat, ugly, although those around me are denying it. I am worried because of it, for I do not know if it is a mental disease or teen problems encountered by other young people too. Thank you!”

PSYCHOLOGIST: Dear student, your problem is very common to many teenagers, both boys or girls. Adolescence is a stage full of transformations and modifications of all kind. Now, a piece of advice which you need to take into consideration is that the physique has an influence over psychic and vice versa. If you think about yourself negatively so will do the others, we are what we are.

Now, I don’t know in what measure those complexes are real or just the result of your imagination, but in both cases the negative thoughts that you’ve got must be replaced with positive thoughts.

In this case I propose an exercise: start in the morning by looking in the mirror and before you start the negative speech that you have learnt well, analyze yourself by putting accent on the pleasant  and positive aspects about you (“I have beautiful  eyes, I have great hair, I am healthy….. so I can manage anything”). By putting accent on your positive parts, your mood will change,  the trust in your strength will increase and the image that you will transmit will be optimistic and confident. A last suggestion: any change needs time so if nothing happens in the first days, don’t give up. (TRANSLATED BY BOGDAN VANDICI)
