A senator, qualified as teacher, announced that she will initiate a debate for reducing the children’s summer holiday while extending the winter holiday.
Mihaela Popa states that if the winter vacation would be longer, children learning in villages wouldn’t have to go through miles of snow just to get to school, nor freeze in classrooms or risk getting the flu.
“During the summer, which lasts 3 months, many children lose their abilities and knowledge accumulated through the year. Also, due to the long holiday, the student’s programme may be overloaded and heavy”, pointed Mihaela Popa.
Another reason for which the senator wants to lengthen the short holiday and shorten the summer holiday is that throughout the winter, local administrations will spare on money from the electricity and heating bills. “We had many discussions with the parents, who say it would be for the benefit of children on holiday to spend a longer period in the winter because of the harsh climate, home to Romania in this season, which is why I will open a series of debates” said the senator.
What do you think? Would you sustain this idea? What would you win or lose? (translated by KELEMEN PETRA)
