Not even one day can one survive without using a product of the forest. Some people don’t consider how much wood they use for common objects, like paper, for the water they drink, medicines, also houses and furniture. The forests deliver the air we breathe and the habitat for endangered species, give us recreational spaces that are of big importance for our daily stress.
About 1, 5 billion poor people depend directly on the forests for fundamental elements like food and wood fuel. Every year 14,6 billion hectares of forest is lost. An area nearly four times bigger than Switzerland. Once the forest begins to disappear, huge environmental, social and economic effects will get triggered which will affect all of us in some way.
Many printers don’t use recycled paper yet because they don’t have suitable cars for this kind of paper. Consumer perception abut recycled paper is that it could be bad. But this is not true, because recycled paper has similar properties as normal paper. As an extra, in Romania at the moment, premium materials are printed on recycled paper.
Worldwide, the paper industry is on 5th place in terms of energy input. Producing the recycled paper requires 70% less energy than normal papermaking. At the same time it needs less water.
In conclusion, what type of paper will you use to write? (DENISA POPA)
